Nikhil Dhall, MD is a board-certified ophthalmologist and Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at UC San Diego, Shiley Eye Institute and Viterbi Family Department of Ophthalmology, subspecializing in the surgical and medical management of adult and pediatric glaucoma and advanced cataract surgery, with expertise in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS).
Dr. Dhall earned his medical degree through the accelerated six-year combined BS/MD program at the University of Missouri–Kansas City. During medical school, he completed a Translational and Clinical Research Fellowship at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary at the University of Illinois at Chicago under the mentorship of Dr. Sandeep Jain, where he received a research award from the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness. He went on to complete his ophthalmology residency at Tulane University, followed by a glaucoma fellowship at UC San Diego under the guidance of Dr. Robert N. Weinreb.
As a clinician-educator, Dr. Dhall serves as Associate Residency Program Director for the UC San Diego Ophthalmology Residency Program. His research interests include the use of generative artificial intelligence in ophthalmic education and the development of novel glaucoma surgical techniques.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Dhall is an avid cyclist, hiker, and race car driver.
