Lauren Hennein, MD is a pediatric ophthalmologist and Interim Chief of Pediatric Ophthalmology at Rady Children’s Hospital. She is an Assistant Professor in the Viterbi Family Department of Ophthalmology at the University of California San Diego.
Dr. Hennein specializes in comprehensive pediatric ophthalmology including strabismus (eye movement disorders) with adjustable sutures and Botox if indicated, pediatric cataracts, eye trauma, and nasolacrimal (tearing) problems.
Dr. Hennein is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She earned her medical degree with distinction at UCSF. Dr. Hennein has received numerous honors/awards, including Rady Children’s Hospital Best Quality Improvement Leaders Project of 2024, the prestigious Heed Fellowship, the UCSF Garcia Asbury Award for Best Clinical Research, and the UCSF Muriel Steele Society Influential Women in Surgery Honor Roll. Dr. Hennein is passionate about serving the underserved and founded the UCSF Ophthalmology Homeless Shelter Clinic.
Dr. Hennein is the Principal Investigator for the Rady/UC San Diego Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG) site, Director for Quality Improvement for the Rady Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology, and the CSSD Surgical Quality Director.
