Esmeralda C. McClean, O.D., F.A.A.O. earned her bachelor's degree in Human Biology at the University of California, San Diego and her Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of California, Berkeley. She completed her clinical rotations at the Alameda County Medical Center in Oakland, CA, VA Portland Medical Center in Vancouver, WA, VA Central California Health Care System in Fresno, CA and Kaiser Hospitals in Sacramento, CA. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.

Dr. McClean’s clinical focus involves ocular disease. She leads the Acute Eye Care Clinic where she triages and cares for patients with emergent eye related issues.

Prior to attending optometry school Dr. McClean was the chief vision screener for the UCSD Eyemobile for Children throughout San Diego County.  She was also part of the AREDS2 study, monitoring patients with age-related macular degeneration.
