Lauren Hennein, MD specializes in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (Eye Alignment Disorders). Dr. Hennein received her medical degree with distinction from the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine. She completed her residency in ophthalmology at the University of California San Francisco. Dr. Hennein completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Boston Children’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Hennein’s practice focuses on comprehensive pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus including pediatric cataracts, strabismus/eye misalignment/double vision including adjustable suture strabismus surgery, amblyopia, nasolacrimal duct disorders (tearing problems), congenital eye syndromes, and systemic diseases affecting the eyes.
Dr. Hennein is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Hennein has received numerous honors/awards, including the prestigious Heed Fellowship (one of 22 ophthalmologists awarded annually in the United States), the UCSF Garcia Asbury Award for Best Clinical Research, and the UCSF Muriel Steele Society Influential Women in Surgery Honor Roll. Dr. Hennein is passionate about serving the underserved and founded the UCSF Ophthalmology Homeless Shelter Clinic. Dr. Hennein is the Principal Investigator for the UC San Diego/Rady Children’s Hospital Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG) site.
